Summer, sun, open space

comfortable space high variability and sustainable mobility is a development philosophy core of the flexible mas platform as family roomy mobility

When summer and vacation time call, the Aiways U5 SUV answers. Thanks to its advanced MAS platform, it not only offers impressive efficiency, but also a spaciousness that is second to none. Whether it’s a family trip, a seaside vacation or a sports adventure, you’ll find room for every challenge in the U5 SUV.

The development of a completely new vehicle architecture, especially one designed purely for electric drive, is just as challenging. The best solutions can only be found if compromises are avoided. It requires innovative strength and foresight to create a platform that not only exists in one category, but also sets new standards in a variety of disciplines through intelligent scalability.

“Designing something new on a blank sheet of paper primarily creates freedom,” says Zeeshan Shaikh, Head of Aiways Technical Center Munich, enthusiastically. “When you are no longer subject to the constraints of conventionally powered vehicles, many new development paths emerge, the basis of which the MAS platform optimally maps.”

Unrivaled space for all: the interior of the Aiways U5 SUV

One of these paths is optimum space economy – in other words, making the best possible use of the available vehicle volume. With regard to the Aiways U5 SUV, a vehicle from the compact SUV category, the design of space economy was focused with the so-called FRM concept. “Family Roomy Mobility” stands for generous, family-friendly mobility and has been a key design guideline in the development of the Aiways U5 SUV.

With a compact exterior length of just 4.68 meters, the U5 spans a large wheelbase of 2.80 meters, which thanks to the flexibility of the MAS platform, the clever packaging of the 63 kWh lightweight battery in sandwich design and the compact front engine arrangement of the 150 kilowatt (204 hp) AI-PT powertrain can be used to best advantage for ideal space utilization in the interior.

As a result, the Aiways U5 SUV provides an impressive 500 millimeters of rear knee room, surpassing even some luxury sedans with an extended wheelbase. This not only positions it as the undisputed leader in its category, but also makes it stand out in comparison with virtually all other vehicles on the market. Despite the generous adjustment range of the sporty front seats, it still ensures at least 265 mm of knee room in the rear, once again outperforming most competitors – and also providing outstanding seating comfort in the first row.

“More Adaptable Structure” – A Spacious Platform as a Base

The space available for the occupants is not the only advantage of the MAS platform. With up to 1,555 liters of trunk space and a high towing capacity if required thanks to the optional trailer towing device, the Aiways U5 SUV is also up to any challenge beyond everyday driving.

“We are proud of what we have achieved with the development of our own vehicle architecture,” explains Dr. Alexander Klose, Executive Vice President of Overseas Operations at Aiways. “Thanks to the MAS platform, we are able to implement the advantages of space economy, lightweight design and efficiency not only in one model, but bring them to several vehicle classes. Our goal is to bring these positive attributes to life in all future models, regardless of body shape and size. I am looking forward to this challenge.
